Media - Performances - 2023 (under construction...)
Not studio fare - all live first-takes. At the end of the day, they're all performances - whether in rehearsal, or with an appreciative audience. Some you get to hear, some you don't (except on this page)! And just like sitting down to play, you never know what you're going to get, so I'm tracking the updates for you on this page. Enjoy!
(last updated - 12/07/23 - I'll put more up as time allows, but these should keep you amused for awhile.)

Thank you to Gary Tatlock for setting up this page that is a blast from the past, and was a great experience for this small-towner. Enjoy. (BTW - Outside, In and Back is Gary's composition.)

Bert Jackson Duo at Harvest Gallery Wine Bar
Bert and I had a chance to go out in duo form some time ago, and capecodwave.com was nice enough to both write about it, and capture Bert's original tune, St. John, on video. Enjoy!

Bert Jackson Quartet at Cape Cod Beer Co.
Unless you're on the guest list (or visiting this page, of course), you won't hear the music at a private party. This birthday party at the Cape Cod Beer Co. was a ton of fun!
Bert Jackson (guitar & vocals), Roe Osborn (bass & vocals), Kareem Sanjaghi (drums), and Mark Borgmann (keyboard).
As you can see from the photo, 'Blues In The Closet' might have been an appropriate tune for the location. But Roe's rendition of 'It Could Have Been Me' was a lot of fun for all. Enjoy!

Truro Vineyards Grape Stomp
Do we know how to have fun on Cape Cod or what?! The annual Truro Vineyards Grape Stomp is a great afternoon of fun, wine, music, wine, great food, great wine, great music.... Well, you get the picture. This photo of Moby Dick and the Wailers is from 2012, where we had a full complement of some of the best musicians in Massachusetts.
From left to right, we had John Dirac (guitar), Mark Borgmann (keyboards), Michael Ryle (bass), Carol Wyeth (vocals), Jeff Hughes (trumpet), Steve Taddeo (drums), and Elmer Drotos (sax, clarinet, and slightly out of frame). Here's one of our tunes from the afternoon.

Liz Live 2014
Here's a group photo from our Sunday, June 8, 2014 cabaret show performance of "Liz Live" at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Yarmouth.
Left to right, Mark Borgmann (piano), Pete Hallemeier (bass), Liz Saunders (vocals and fearless leader), Michael Gross (drums), and guest artist Kathryn Burke (vocals).
I've included two songs from the show for your enjoyment. Liz sings the Matt Dennis song "Angel Eyes", and Kathryn sings the Duke Ellington classic "In My Solitude". If you're wondering about the ambiance of these tracks, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, as you'll note from the photo, was once a bank. (Think lots of marble, creating a very live space.)

Mark Borgmann and Friends with Liz Saunders
We got together to play a few tunes at Falmouth's Arts Alive! 2014.
We had a wonderful time, and even though it was an early morning time slot, everyone enjoyed some great music! (I'd guess the lights were for ambiance. What do you think?)
Thanks to my friends, all of whom were hauled out of bed early on a Saturday morning to make this gig! From left to right, Pete Hallemeier (bass),
Lary Chaplan (violin),
Liz Saunders (vocals), Dave Anderson (drums), John Shaw (sax), Mark Borgmann (keyboards),
and Joe Mongelli (trumpet).

Raif
They say lightning doesn't strike twice. Hah! Here are a couple of magic examples. First Night Chatham and Adele's Lovesong... Of course we rehearse before big events like our First Night concert at the Methodist Church in Chatham. Sometimes at the venue, sometimes not. With Lovesong, Raif sang, Ben Kesighian played acoustic guitar, and I added the acoustic piano background. I think each of the following versions; the rehearsal (in my music room), and the performance (with the magnificent Boesendorfer and Church acoustics), stands on its own. Enjoy! |
God Bless The Child
This clip was recorded at Longshore in Chatham, in a duo setting. |
Sharkz
Appearing in many different combinations (duo, trio, quartet...), John Shaw and Mark Borgmann are the core of Sharkz, appearing at various venues around the Cape. We'll be starting the 2018 Fall Jazz Brunch season at Bleu in Mashpee on Sunday, September 9th from 12-3 pm. Hope you can join us!
Here are a couple of sample clips for your enjoyment, from a Sharkz Trio evening at the captivating Eclectic Cafe in Hyannis.
John Shaw (winds), Mark Borgmann (keyboards / bass),
George Deraleau (drums).

Joe Mongelli & Mark Borgmann
Now that Joe is full-time on-Cape, we're enjoying more opportunities to play together in duo to quintet settings and beyond! Here are a couple of "seasonal" examples for your enjoyment.
Also, check out the Miles 'n Trane link for our 2018 series that were a tribute to Miles Davis and John Coltrane. These sessions were so popular that we reprised them with new material in Summer '19. |
